Hydroponics

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil, instead using nutrient solutions in water. In the 18th Century researchers discovered that plants absorb essential mineral nutrients as inorganic ions in water. Plant roots are able to absorb when when nutrients in the soil dissolve in water. Soil is no longer needed when when mineral nutrients are introduced in to the the plants water supply.
